Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

What is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)?

ACT helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings related to physical or mental health conditions. Instead of trying to change or eliminate negative thoughts and emotions, ACT encourages people to allow these experiences without letting them control their actions.

How does ACT work?

ACT helps people become more aware of their thoughts and feelings using techniques like mindfulness, grounding, and distancing. These techniques help people let go of unhelpful thoughts and beliefs that may be holding them back and instead to take action based on their values. The goal of ACT is to improve quality of life and achieve personal goals. The opposite of letting thoughts and feelings drive them into unhelpful or harmful actions while trying to escape or control them.

What can I expect from ACT?

During ACT, your Psychologist will help you learn new skills and strategies for managing difficult thoughts and feelings. You’ll gain clarity on what you want in life and take action towards improving your quality of life.
